Cornwall Adventure - July 2 - July 12, 2022 - Rescheduled for 2024 - Dates and pricing TBA

If you are a fan of Doc Martin or have seen the film “ The Fisherman’s Friend,” then you will agree that it is imperative we take a tour of Cornwall.  We will witness up close and personal the craggy inlets along the coast, beautifully untamed countryside, and locations awash with history.  Cornwall is a magical location set on the south-western tip of the United Kingdom. Cornwall is recognised as one of the Celtic nations and is the homeland of the Cornish people. Our private guide grew up in Cornwall and is delighted to show us the “real deal” of this beautiful corner of the world. Enjoy the comfort of a small group ( 14 -16 ) people as we share in the adventure of a lifetime.

 Tour Itinerary:

Saturday, July 2nd,  - Departure from USA to London

Our bags are packed, passports up to date and we are ready to embark on a wonderful journey to a most amazing place. We will meet at the airport for our scheduled flights, wear comfortable clothing and shoes that slip on and off easily for going through the airports.  We will enjoy a meal  during our flight and then we can sit back and dream of Cornwall.

Sunday, July 3rd, Arrival in London (Lancaster gate)

Wake up, stretch  and we are in London. It is suggested  that you try and add a couple of days before or after your tour begins to enjoy this wonderful city.  Due to different arrival dates and times, we can make our own taxi or train transport to our hotel.  We will check into our hotel and then have time for exploring.  Our personal guide David Dacy will meet up with us in the afternoon to give us an overview of the tour and details about today’s schedule. This is a chance to enjoy the delights of London, England’s capital city, one of the most walkable cities in the world. Wander the lively South Bank of the river Thames, visit Sir Christopher Wren’s St Paul's Cathedral, you could visit one of the many museums London has to offer or take in a West End show.  We will enjoy a “welcome” dinner together to discuss the adventure that awaits us.  Overnight:   London Hotel - (Lancaster Gate Hotel)

Monday, July 4th ~ Tintagel:

We can wish our family and friends a Happy 4th of July back home before setting off on our adventure. We will enjoy breakfast at our hotel, meet our driver and depart London at 8.00 am setting off for Cornwall. Our destination is the historic town of Tintagel, home of the legend of King Arthur. We have the afternoon to immerse ourselves in the history and myths of Tintagel, visit King Arthur’s castle, and walk the spectacular newly created rope bridge. You could also explore the coastal path and lose yourself in the stunning breathtaking scenery.  Be sure to pause every now and then and breathe in that Cornish air  - we have certainly arrived in paradise. You can either enjoy dinner at our hotel or wander about town and find the perfect spot.  Overnight: Tintagel Hotel - (Camelot Castle Hotel)

Tuesday, July 5th ~ Truro, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project

After breakfast we will start the day with a visit to Cornwall’s only true city, Truro, a cathedral city which boasts a historic cathedral and a maze of shops and galleries appealing to all tastes. In the late morning we’ll make a stop at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, and lose ourselves for a while in this lush 150-year-old botanical estate known for extraordinary rhododendrons and subtropical ferns. We then drive on to the number one tourist destination in Cornwall: the Eden Project—two huge biomes constructed in a 160-year-old disused china clay mine.  Another evening to stroll about town and have dinner on your own time.  Overnight:  Tintagel( Camelot Castle Hotel )

Wednesday, July 6th  ~ Port Isaac, St. Michaels Mount

After a delicious Cornish breakfast we will depart Tintagel and head 20 minutes down the stunning North Cornish coast to the charming Cornish fishing village of Port Isaac or as many of you have come to know it as Portwenn from the famous Doc Martin series (pronounced Port When).  Located in the middle of this North Cornwall coast village is a perfect jumble of whitewashed fisherman's cottages spilling down to the harbour along some unfeasibly narrow lanes. In the old days life revolved around the harbour with fishing and shipping, the mainstay of the village. Times were good and this can be seen in the fine buildings around the harbour. We have time to stroll the streets of this stunning town. Enjoy a drink at the old schoolhouse, visit the surgery and see if the Doc is home! The afternoon head for the amazing island world of St. Michaels Mount, where you can wander around the ancient castle that is steeped in history of a time gone by. Also enjoy a walk through its sub-tropical gardens at your leisure. The late afternoon sees us head to the delightful, picturesque town of St Ives where  we will spend the next three nights.  You can walk its beaches, explore its many boutique shops and galleries. There are dozens of places to choose from for your dinner.  Overnight:  St Ives (Tregenna Castle Resort)

Thursday, July 7th ~ St Ives

After breakfast the day is yours for exploring the delightful, picturesque town of St Ives where you can walk its beaches , explore its many boutique shops and galleries including the St Ives Tate. Barbara Hepworth museum. You may decide to just relax at the hotel and enjoy the 4 star facilities. Overnight:  St. Ives (Tregenna Castle Resort)

Friday, July 8th ~ Ferry to St. Mary’s

Enjoy your coffee and breakfast before we head off for more adventure.  If you are lucky you sometimes see the Isle of Scilly from Lands’ End! Now we get the chance to visit this unique archipelago of 140 islands. We will take the ferry to St Mary’s, one of 5 inhabited islands known for its extraordinary gardens and pristine beauty; we will take a tour, learning a little of the history of this fascinating place. We will return late afternoon to St. Ives where you can choose a special place for dinner on your own. Overnight:  St. Ives (Tregenna Castle Resort)

Saturday, July 9th ~ Lands End, Falmouth:

This morning we will bid St. Ives farewell.  We will head out to experience the legendary Lands’ End with its stunning wild scenery, cliff- top walks and many attractions. For the Poldark fans amongst you, Lands’ End is not far from stunning cliffs of Porthgwara, another popular spot for Captain Ross Poldark himself! From here we journey on to the unique Minack Theatre and the sweeping landscapes surrounding the area. Enjoy your beautiful surroundings and take your time finding a spot for dinner on your own time.   Overnight: Falmouth (St Michaels Resort)

Sunday, July 10th ~ Free morning for exploring, Afternoon Fal River ferry to Trelissick Country House

This morning relax and enjoy breakfast. We will have a free morning to explore the delights of Falmouth. Relax at the hotel or visit Pendennis Castle, one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal fortresses, or lose yourself in the beautiful town centre. In the afternoon we take the Fal River ferry to Trelissick country house and gardens boasting stunning maritime views and lovely woodland walks. The house was built in 1824 by Thomas Daniel before he went bankrupt for living “too high on the hog.” We will return to Falmouth where you can enjoy dinner on your own before retiring for the evening.  Overnight:  Falmouth (St Michaels Resort)

Monday, July 11th ~  Bodmin Moor, King Doniert’s Stone, London

This morning we head over to Bodmin Moor, one of the last great unspoilt areas of the South West. Bodmin Moor, one of Cornwall's designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a remote, bleak heather covered upland granite moorland still grazed by moorland ponies.  We will take in the Trethevy Quoit, a preserved megalithic tomb, then on to King Doniert’s Stone, before finishing our Bodmin tour at the Neolithic Hurlers Stone.   We will return to London late afternoon to enjoy a dinner together and discuss our wonderful Cornwall Adventure.   Overnight: London (Lancaster Gate Hotel)

Tuesday July 12th ~ Return to USA

Our hearts are full and a little sad at the same time as we check our bags, passports and prepare for the journey back home.   Our Cornwall Adventure has come to a pause, but our wonderful memories will live on and we can relive them over and over again. Some may stay on in London to do more exploring, others can arrange for taxi or train to Heathrows, Lancaster gate for the return flight back to the USA.

PLEASE NOTE:

~ Most Cornwall attractions require some moderate walking and the climbing of stairs. Cornwall is a hilly place so be sure and pack good walking shoes and perhaps a walking stick.
